Ringneck Dove

This is the information page for the ringneck dove.  This is the dove that is released at weddings.  It is completely white and has a visible ring around it’s neck.

The hen lays two eggs, never more or less.  The chicks don’t normally survive in the first two or three clutches, until she gets the hang of it.  It’s easier to hand feed dove chicks than it is parrot chicks.  That is because the dove doesn’t need to raise it’s head to swallow.

Doves are very docile, so they should be protected from hookbills.  The particular dove in the photo above had her beak severed by a lovebird. she survived the encounter but it could have been much worse.
